Optimizing pavement repair plans within budget is always challenging for roadway operators. Identifying better approaches by laying out different budget scenarios and maintenance outcomes is time-consuming. Maintenance decisions can be puzzling when dealing with scattered repair segments and various factors that need consideration, like costs and road types. Data-driven suggestions, serving as a guideline of consideration, can help mitigate the burdens in maintenance planning.
Smart Pavement Management (SPM) offers a mathematical simulation of different budget scenarios. Our numerical optimization algorithm and predictive feature suggest expected pavement conditions for each 33-foot segment, taking into account maintenance within budget scenarios over time. The algorithm automatically allocates a budget for maintenance categories, putting more weight on segments in nearby areas with similar needs. This entire process is designed to mimic the consideration of the engineers who conduct maintenance planning. SPM supports maintenance decisions by providing solid guidelines based on the data and taking advantage of a mathematical approach.
